**Warning** Long Post.. Wanderlust May be Triggered

I am going to be 110% honest with you right now. I totally had another post planned for today. I was going to talk to you a little bit about who I am and why I have come up with this new concept for my blog..but I have changed my mind.

I have had a revelation in the last two weeks, a quarter life crisis if you will. This has caused me to shift, it has cause me to redesign the way that I live. I love my family, I love my friends, I love my home, I love that I travel for a living. However, lately I have realized how much I have truly missed writing and talking to my internet friends (i.e. you) behind a keyboard. And quite frankly, I miss the freedom to explore the world indefinitely.

Recently.. And I mean like three hours ago, I was collecting some of my older work. Pieces of me that I wrote down and shared with you. I took these blog posts down when I was reconfiguring this space because “it just is not who I am anymore.” I thought the writer of my past posts were not a reflection of who I am now.. And let me tell you something, I was definitely mistaken. So many pieces of me have been broken off and left behind, but many of those pieces have been picked back up somewhere along the way.

A few days ago I was trying to explain to my mom how my brain operates and the only thing I could tell her is that I feel. I feel absolutely everything – happiness, sadness, comfort, loneliness, anger, excitement and even nothingness. I can feel nothing and everything in the same breath.. And to be clear I am not telling you this to make you feel weird or self-conscious that you are possibly getting some crazy insight to the inner workings of my brain; because trust me if I cannot figure that shit out, one paragraph is not going to clarify it for you either. The reason I am telling you all of this is because it is possible that you might be able to relate.

Stay with me.. I know this is super long-winded. This is where I’ve been leading you. I am recycling this post because it was one of the first pieces I wrote that truly inspired me. The entire idea of this blog is to find out how we travel, right? So it is only right that we mention the most important step to learning how we travel. That being said, today we are going to talk about why you should buy your plane ticket..

Krabi, Thailand

You should buy it today.. or tomorrow or this year for that matter. I just want you to travel. Why? Because you should that’s why. I am not going to list reasons for you in a neat, numerical format, instead I am just going to word vomit all over this post with my feelings. It is going to be a short rant but my point is that when I am finished bleh-ing all over this page you will say to yourself “Self, we really should go on an adventure.. you have done so much for me lately and you totally deserve it because you are important and I love you. Sincerely Yourself.” Okay? Okay.

You should buy your plane ticket because you need a liberating self-exploring adventure.. you should go alone, or with your best friend, or with your significant other, or with your pup or with your parents but you need to be liberated from your 9-5, so buy your plane ticket. Also I know there is a destination that you are dying to visit staycation-islandcation–whatever! and you are waiting on a sign to go..HERE IT IS THIS IS YOUR SIGN!! BUY YOUR PLANE TICKET AND TAKE A TRIP TO A PLACE YOU ARE DYING TO GO..that ticket is waiting to be assigned to you, don’t let it go to waste! Also buy your plane ticket today because life is too short and you need to do what makes you happy. You need to see places that will make your soul feel complete. Oh yea and you should buy that plane ticket because you are allowed to love yourself. You should do more things for you! I know it is a foreign concept, but believe it or not YOU can do whatever the hell you want. And if you want to travel.. well then I think you should just get down with your bad self and buy that plane ticket.

You should buy that plane ticket because Starbucks is sick of seeing your sad face morning after morning on your way to work and “Starbs” told me she thinks that you should visit her delicious friend Caffe Gilli in Florence for an authentic cappuccino. You should also buy your plane ticket because the process is totally romantic and I want you to have that. From the moment you decide you are ready to go on vacay, to when you actually purchase the plane ticket, to the daily, semi-obsessive research you do on your soon to be residence and of course shopping for the perfect shoes or speedo? And maybe you even eat a destination inspired meal just to get you in the mood.. ughhhh ohmygoshh isn’t that just completely romantic.. no significant other needed.. just you and your plane ticket – candle light dinner and all.

You should buy your plane ticket because that ticket will never-ever-ever judge you. I promise it will never tell you stop eating pounds of pasta or buckets of brie because you have gained a few pounds and it will definitely never tell you that haircut is stupid or that you smell bad.. your plane ticket loves you and is only there for support.

But most importantly you should buy that plane ticket because it will inspire you.. it will inspire you to take your next trip, which will then in turn inspire you to take the next trip and the next and the next.. and after each trip you will feel more whole and worldly and fabulous. You will never want to stop traveling because you will realize that the world is so big and that you must see all of it, even if you can only escape for a day or two.  And then you will never stop buying plane tickets. One day you will reminisce and you will say “Self..do you remember when we read that ridiculous post from that crazy chick on the internet and she told us to buy our plane ticket and for some ungodly reason we listened.. well I think she was right Self..I think she was right.” By that point you will be a true nomad that has seen the world and I will be some old croak sitting on the coast of the Mediterranean drinking some bubbly and we will all be happy.

If you made it to the end I want to first of all thank you and second of all acknowledge that you just read 1120 words of my nonsense. And for that I will forever love you. So now that I totally changed the game up on you, I hope you feel more inspired to buy a plane ticket.

As always..Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading and following along with me on this crazy adventure.

  1. I love this post for so many reasons. I love the self reflection, and realization that when you think you’ve changed, a piece of you all remains. I remember your original post from Ohmyitskye, and I loved it! So glad you brought it back because the same holds true…..always buy the plane ticket. Xoxoxox -C
